You can kick it up a notch by opting for the available 2.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder variant, which cranks the heat up to 260 horsepower and 277 lb.-ft. of torque. of torque. The Honda Passport comes with a standard 3.5L V6 engine, which beats out both of the Outback’s systems with its delivery of 285 horsepower1 and 262 lb.-ft of torque2. Though Subaru’s entry may be slightly torquier than the Passport, turbo lag and a standard Continuously Variable Transmission will make it feel more sluggish as you attempt to merge onto Montauk Highway. A V6 powertrain and standard 10-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters on Honda’s model mean that not only will accelerating feel more linear, but you’ll have more control of it as well.
Technology
The 2026 Honda Passport continues to outdo the 2026 Subaru Outback in the way it handles technology integration. It’ll feel more seamless to interact with the latter model thanks to its standard Google built-in3 functionality, a highly intuitive voice assistant that allows you to control your media playback, vehicle settings, and even calendar reminders without your smartphone being connected to the vehicle. While the Outback does feature a standard voice-activation feature you can prompt with a button on the steering wheel, it isn’t nearly as advanced as Honda’s tool. You can rely on the standard 12.1-inch multimedia system found in the competing model, though it’s slightly smaller than the Passport’s standard 12.3-inch color touchscreen. Both cars can play background music as you drive along West Babylon, but you will have to manually adjust the output of the speakers within the Outback when you’re transitioning from a residential area to a noisy freeway. Thanks to the standard Speed-Sensitive Volume Compensation Tool in Honda’s SUV, you won’t have to lift a finger to better hear your music.
Comfort and Convenience
You’ll be able to store significantly more clubs and duffel bags within the trunk of the Honda Passport due to its 104.6 cubic ft. of maximum cargo volume4, which bodes well for upcoming trips to the Bergen Point Golf Course. Some gear may have to be left at home if you’re taking the Outback, as 80.5 cubic ft. of maximum trunk space may not be sufficient in some cases. Fold the rear seats of Honda’s vehicle up if you happen to have enough space for occupants in the back, exposing 40.9 inches of rear legroom. Taller passengers may have some knee or joint strain if they’re riding in the back of Subaru’s model, as it only has 39.5 inches of second-row legroom to utilize. They’ll also have to inquire about raising or lowering interior temperatures with you because the Outback’s standard dual-zone automatic climate control system’s airflow may not be enough for their liking, but you won’t have to worry about that in the Passport, thanks to its standard tri-zone automatic climate control feature.
