    Buying New vs. CPO?

There are several differences between certified pre-owned and new vehicles, beyond just the age of the car. Generally, you’ll see certified pre-owned (CPO) cars are more recent models, with low mileage. These vehicles are well serviced and heavily inspected, which includes part replacement if necessary. Basically, CPO vehicles are like used cars, in condition analogous to a brand new vehicle. What type of things should you be aware of?

  • Value and Price
  • Various Trim and Feature Selection
  • Technology
  • Reliability

Buying New: The Ups and Downs

New vehicles have less surprises and offer a number of benefits over buying a used or CPO vehicle, like:

  • Assurance: Rest easy knowing each and every piece on your vehicle is factory fresh, meaning maintenance is less of an immediate worry.
  • Up to Date Technology: New vehicles come with the latest and greatest technology available that a CPO vehicle might not have.
  • Customization: Make your car the way you want it with personalization options on things like color, trim, and features.

CPO: The Good and the Bad

Buying CPO instead of used offers you a better deal for a vehicle that is close to brand new in terms of condition. One great thing about buying a CPO vehicle is that it has already surpassed the initial depreciation, meaning you can find a high-end model for less than a new base level of the same model.

You can expect even more benefits, such as:

  • Selection: CPO vehicles give you a wider model inventory to choose from, instead of the limited offerings new vehicles give you.
  • Benefits: Honda CPO vehicles come with a slew of great incentives. You can find benefits such as roadside assistance to help you out of a jam around Bay Shore or West Islip.
  • Extended Warranty: Unlike the coverage you find on a new vehicle, CPO vehicles tend to have longer warranties for powertrain components.

Not every aspect of buying a CPO vehicle is better, though. Keep in mind that you get what you pay for, and each vehicle will have different features, specs, and wear on them. Though these vehicles are inspected thoroughly, their components, like the brake pads or battery, are more prone to needing replacement much sooner than its new counterpart.

Obviously, the biggest difference between a CPO and new vehicle is price. Also, a new vehicle will depreciate quickly in the first couple years.
